Harman Claytor Corrigan & Wellman’s Staff Spotlight for April is Ginger Huffman. Ginger has been a Legal Assistant at Harman Claytor for 15 years, but has been in the legal field for 28 years total.
1. What is a brief summary of your employment background? — I worked in Washington, DC and Falls Church, Virginia for 10 years in patent and trademark law firms. When we moved to Richmond, there were few opportunities for me to stay in patent and trademark law, so I went to work for a sole practitioner who practiced real estate and life care planning law. I quickly realized this was not something I wanted to continue to do. I applied to HCCW in 2005 working for Lynne Jones Blain and Danielle Giroux and it was the best decision. I left the firm from 2017-2020 to work with children with autism in Henrico County Public Schools.
2. Where are you from originally? — Arlington, Virginia.
3. What is at the top of your bucket list? — Live in Europe for three months.
4. What is your definition of success? — Success is the result of hard work, loyalty and perseverance.
5. What advice would you give your younger self? — Life is short. Family is everything. Enjoy every moment because you may not have that moment again.
6. What’s something surprising/fun that not many people know about you? — I was voted Homecoming Queen by my senior class.
7. When have you felt the proudest and why? — A breakthrough with a child with autism. To see his or her face light up and know together you did it and made a difference. The three years I worked with kids with autism were some of the most rewarding days in my life.
8. What has been your most meaningful accomplishment so far? — My two daughters, Leighton (20) and Addison (17). I tried to instill good values in them and it is nice to see them blossom into beautiful young women.
9. Do you have a motto or personal mantra? — Don’t focus on the destination or you will miss the journey.
10. What is your biggest pet peeve? — Laziness.
11. What TV show/movie are you ashamed to admit you love? — Sixteen Candles.
12. What would your perfect weekend look like? — Relaxing and spending time with friends at a winery.
