Attorney Spotlight – Blaire O’Brien

Harman Claytor Corrigan & Wellman’s Attorney Spotlight for July is Blaire H. O’Brien. Blaire has been practicing law for 13 years, four of which have been at Harman Claytor where she focuses on Local Government, Land Use, and Employment matters.

1. Where are you from originally? — Lexington, Virginia.
2. What is at the top of your bucket list? — We are the O’Briens, so my husband and I are planning in the future to take our children to Ireland as a family. I have never been, so I look forward to experiencing it for the first time with them.
3. What’s something surprising/fun that not many people know about you? — I love a good road trip. I have driven across the United States four times. I love exploring our country from the ground level because there is always something new to see or some overlooked corner of America that you would miss from the air. Those trips taught me just how big the country is and how important it is to treat those who are different from you with respect.
4. What is the most important thing you have learned in the last five years? — Well, in the last five years, I have become a parent. I’m sure anyone who has been a parent can attest to the important things you learn about life through parenting and the way it changes your priorities and perspective. It was also during that time that I found my way to Harman Claytor. And that decision reflects something else important that I have learned. You cannot overstate the importance of finding the work that is right for you, serving the right clients, while partnering with co-workers you enjoy and respect. I feel very fortunate to have learned that lesson at the right time in my life.
5. You’re happiest when… — I’m running. My morning run is my meditation before the hassles of the day catch up to me.
6. What would your perfect weekend look like? — Time spent outdoors – probably hiking – with my family. I grew up in the mountains and there is still nothing that makes my heart happy quite like a mountain view and fresh air. We recently got our five-year-old to hike all the way up Humpback Rock in Charlottesville – I see a lot more of that in our future.
